Steps in the design process
The services offered by the practice illustrate the step-by-step process taken when designing a garden. Any or all of the stages can be commissioned and the fees will reflect the time and detail required to fulfil the brief.
Initial Consultation – An informal discussion of the client’s views and requirements, alongside an inspection of the garden and its setting.
Design Brief – This document forms the basis of the design requirements. It covers the details of the client’s needs as mutually agreed in the initial consultation. The fee structure for the work is also covered.
Presentation Plan – A scale plan based on an accurate survey of the site and showing the design concepts. Refinements of the plan are made and agreed at this stage.
Design Plans – A fully detailed set of plans which can be used to install the garden. Construction drawings for elements such as water features, pergolas, steps and walls are included.
Planting Plans – These show the plants selected as suitable for the location, where they will be placed and the quantities required. They may form part of a full garden design or be commissioned as a stand-alone project for an existing planting area or a newly created one.
Maintenance Schedule – Written instructions which cover the care of the plants in a design.
Project Monitoring – Overseeing the work as required, including liaison with contractors through the tendering process and monitoring of the setting out, construction and planting of the garden.
